Chicago, Illinois, October 22, 2013 – The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Chicago Division #1 will be holding its annual benefit on November 22 at the Irish American Heritage Center and will be donating the funds raised to Natasha McShane’s rehabilitation.
Many in the Irish community remember the petite Irish exchange student, who was brutally beaten in Chicago on April 23, 2010. The 4-foot 9-inch 100-lb McShane was left unconscious with her skull cracked and still has not recovered three years later. Now 27 years old, she is unable to walk without assistance, take care of herself, or even speak. The trial of her accused attacker. Heriberto Viramontes , is currently taking place in Chicago.
William J. Kelly, president of AOH Chicago Division #1 says that McShane really needs the help of the Irish community in Chicago and elsewhere more than ever now.
“She [Natasha] really should have had at least one full year of intense rehabilitation by now.” Kelly says. “She was receiving 24/7 care in Chicago and now is only attending rehab two or three times a week. She’s had numerous setbacks – surgeries, infections, seizures, and other complications. Her family has been desperate to get her into a rehabilitation program in Ireland. But it’s not easy to do that. Our prayers are with them but we in the Irish community have to try and do more to help if we can. The goal is to raise enough money to pay for Natasha’s rehabilitation program.”
The Chicago Bears’ Pat McCaskey is the guest of honor and speaker for the November 22 event.
“The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Chicago Division #1 is very proud and honored to have Pat McCaskey at the event. He is not only a great Irishman but a great Catholic, who really lives his faith,“ says Kelly.
After the speeches, guests will enjoy food, cash bar, an exciting auction with prizes, a performance by the Identity Irish dancers, and the live music of the Chancel Brothers which has been a fixture in the Irish/Celtic Music Scene in Chicago.
Voluntary donations will be taken at the door or will be taken at http://www.timefortasha.com.
Companies or individual donors that would like to sponsor or underwrite the event should contact 312-768-8683.
